How to Set HTC MyTouch 4G to Recovery Mode

I could remember when a colleague came to me lamenting what difficulties he had been through just by trying to boot his HTC Mytouch 4G into recovery mode!

Booting any Android device into the recovery mode is perhaps, a necessary step to take before you can be able to upgrade or downgrade your android device. Yes. With the fastboot checked, you might be unable to boot your HTC phone into bootloader.

Booting HTC MyTouch 4G into Recovery Mode

If you have ever tried to boot your HTC MyTouch 4G into recovery mode, you will notice that the usual logic to enter the recovery mode for most HTC Android devices seems not working for the HTC MyTouch 4G.

As in the case of the Tmobile G2 and other Android devices by HTC, you only have to switch off the phone by either pressing and holding down the power button or by removing the battery then; to boot into the recovery mode, you will simply Press and hold the power button plus the volume down button (Power + Volume down buttons) at once.

What To Do Before Booting HTC MyTouch 4G into Recovery Mode

For the usual logic to work with the HTC My Touch 4G, you have to unmark the "Fast Boot" option in the power option under settings and to do this; simply go to:

Menu <<>> Settings <<>> Power <<>> Fast Boot

Please note that you only have to unmark the "Fast Boot" option. If the "Fast Boot" Option is already unmarked, just leave it.

If you have successfully located and unmarked the "Fast Boot" option, you can then boot your HTC MyTouch 4G into recovery or bootloader mode using the usual logic for all other HTC Android OS smartphones. Thus;

Switch off the phone then, press and hold the power button plus the volume down button (Power + Volume down buttons) for about 10 - 15 seconds or until the HBoot screen appears.

Good luck

How to Unlock your HTC phone's Bootloader

HTC Bootloader Unlock

Following the many questions on how to unlock HTC Android phones' bootloader in my mailbox, I have decided to finally share a full insight of how it is being done on Aryk Enterprise blog.

Before we proceed, there are some questions that might be given answers and they are:

What is A Bootloader?

To put simply, Bootloader is like the stronghold of any operating systems; a section that does things first before any other section of such operating system do.

Bootloader basically packages the instructions to boot operating system kernel and also have its own debugging or modification environment.

Why Is Bootloader Locked?

Well, this needs no much explanation. Just like copyright, most Android OS manufacturers want their customers use the same version designed for the specific device. And so, with a locked bootloader, it's impossible to flash a custom ROM or modify any part of the device.

Why Do You Have to Unlock Your Bootloader?

If you ever wish to completely modify any part of your HTC android device, you will need to unlock your bootloader;
E.g to flash a custom Recovery, to root or to flash a custom ROM amongst others.

How to Unlock your HTC Android Phone's Bootloader

In order to unlock your HTC Android phones' bootloader, you will need the materials whose download links are given below;

1- ADB ( Android Debug Bridge ) tools for windows. Download ADB tools here.

2- Download HTC Android USB Drivers here

Once the download of the files above is completed, just install the USB driver on your computer. You may skip this process if you already have HTC Sync installed on your computer.

As for the ADB tools, UNZIP the file and create a new folder for it on your local drive root folder; not in any sub-folder. It should be e.g C:\ADB

Also, make sure that all the files you unzipped are plain within the ADB folder and not in sub-folder of the ADB folder again.

Now, visit HTCDev Website to get your Unlock-token and follow all the instructions therein to complete the rest of the Bootloader Unlock process.

Notice

Please, be informed that, at the moment, HTC provides bootloader unlock supports for only their EU ( Europe ) customers therefore; you need to have an EU ROM e.g At&T UK, Orange amongst others running on your phone before you can be able to unlock your bootloader.

Android Stock ROMs: Meaning And Download Links

android root

As an avid user of android devices, you should be familiar with Stock ROMs and Custom ROMs. A Stock ROM is particularly the ready-made ROMs that originally come with your android device and under which your warranties are covered.

Except for one reason or another, you should not get rid of your Stock ROM. Of course, if you would like to root your android device or install Custom Recovery; you will definitely tamper with your Stock ROM and this, in return voids your warranty.

That said, in case you ever need to return your phone to whom or where you bought it from, you will have to re-install the stock ROM on the phone.

The good news is, some thinkers ( hackers, so say some ) on the internet have worked hard enough to make available Stock ROMs for your particular provider - T-Mobile, AT&T, telus, Orange amongst a host of others. You can easily download any of these Stock ROMs and install it on your phone. Once done successfully, your warranty has just been recovered.

Where to Download Stock ROMs: HTC, Samsung, Ericson And Others

Among many sources from which you can download Stock ROMs for your various android devices on the internet, I have found the two sources listed below very useful and fulfilling.

1- ShippedROMs - I have being using Stock ROMs from this source for quiet a while and I have found their ROMs very interesting. ShippedROMs cover fairly a large number of Stock ROMs for different android devices and providers.
You can try ShippedROM if you ever have a use for Stock ROms.

2- AndroidRUU - Talking of the number of Stock ROMs for different android devices and service providers, AndroidRUU sure have a large number on their list, too. But, I do have a problem with them whenever I have poor network reception and the problem is; their server does not support " Pause And Resume " downloads.

Whenever or at any point an ongoing download fails, you just have to start all-over again.

4 Ways to Maximise your Data Usage -Android Users

In this part of the world, the number one challenge most android devices users face is the data it consumes, especially; when you download with it. And yet, I think it would be safe to say it is the most loveable mobile device (OS) the world has seen so far -for so many reasons, of course.

Within this page, you might learn how to minimize the volume of data yo ur Android device consumes thereby helping you maximize the volume of your data allowance as per your subscriptions.

How to Maximize your Android Phone Data Usage

1- Data Service Up-time Duration: depending on your needs, you can occasionally disable your data service. To do this, go to:

Press Menu <<>> Navigate to Settings <<>> Wireless

And from there you can disable or enable your data service.

Please note that for the time for which the service is disabled, you may not be able to access the internet and your syncing programs would halt until the data service is re-enabled.

2- Background data: Android devices have the ability to running programs at the background; a feature that makes the PUSH technology easier for most apps that are being installed on most android devices.

With the background data on; every apps installed on your phone can connect to the internet at will and can download and transmit information to/from the internet outside your knowledge - of course, this has greater impact on your data consumption. You can just disable it to save your data cap.

To disable the background data, go to:

Menu <<>> Settings <<>> Account And Sync <<>> Background Data -Android 2.0 - 3.8

Menu <<>> Setting <<>> Wireless And Networks <<>> Data Usage <<>> Press Menu button to display options and tick "Restrict Background Data" -Android 4.0 and above.<

3- Browsers: as may be known to all already, that a browser may consume data than another especially; when you download with them.
A lighter browser like "Opera consumes much lesser data as compared to the volume of data a browser like Firefox for Android consumes. You may decide to stick with Opera browser that saves much of your data than using any other browser.

Additionally, a browser like Opera has its in-built downloaded and does not depend on the residual Android inbuilt downloader that consumes much greater data.

4- 2G or 4G Service: Although, this completely determines how swift your browsers and downloads are being done; it also helps determine how much data you consume within a period of time.

Using 2G service when no downloads are being done is perhaps the best idea to maximise your data usage however, depending on your location and your service provider, the 2G service could also be as fast when it comes downloads.

In case you have any opinions or suggestions that fan further help maximise the data consumption, you may share it with others using the comment box below.
