What is Android Root Access "Rooting"?

Android Root Access simply means the process of allowing users running Android OS on their smartphones, tablets and other devices to gain certain “superuser” rights and permissions thus; “The Root Access” within Android’s subsystem.

In short, rooting means getting to the ‘root’ of the Android operating system, given you the full privilege to make global changes within your Android device.

Advantages of Rooting Your Android Device

Of course, there must be a reason or perhaps, reasons why you should root your Android device which are generally regarded as the advantages you gain from rooting your Android device.

Rooted Android device have numerous benefits over the unrooted ones and some of the benefits are listed below:

1. Ability to run Special Applications: the number one reason why most people would want to root their Android device is the ability to run special applications unrooted ones cannot run.
2. More Powerful Custom Themes: Themes are the graphics that appear on your device. A rooted device will give the user the privilege to fully customize every graphic on the device. Of course, custom themes can also be loaded on the device if so needed.
3. Tethering Ability: though, this may not be an important advantage, it is also a count. If you root your Android device, you will be able to tether a computer to your Android device, even if it has been disabled by default.
Tethering is a technology that makes it possible for you to use your phone’s 3G service to connect your computer to the internet once the computer is connected to the phone.
4. Ability to Disable Ads: on a rooted Android device, you can completely block advertisements being served on the device.
5. Better Performance And Usability: with a rooted Android device, you can improve your device performance and extend its battery life with the use of some custom ROMs and Apps available for use on rooted Android devices.

Disadvantages of Rooting

As is common with everything in existence, if there are "DOs" there should also be "DON'Ts".
Below are the three main disadvantages of rooting your Android devices:

1. Security Risks: rooting your Android devices may expose your device to some security risks, since rooting may create security vulnerability.
2. Bricking your phone: One can but expect nothing but threats when he tampers too much with his phone. And a "bricked" phone is no better than dead phone.
3. Warranty: Rooting your Android device will definitely void your warranty as some carriers and hardware manufacturers warn against rooting your Android device.

Although, you can easily escape this risk by simply unrooting your rooted Android device if the need be. To unroot the rooted device, you only need to flash the original backup ROM made when rooting the device and that's all.

Briefing Note

Rooted Android device poses no threat and difficulties to cautious mobile phone users as they are usually careful while using their phone. In essence, if you are cautious using your phone, rooting your Android device is best for you.
And in the other way round, to some people, the benefits of rooting just don't worth the time and efforts.
Whichever ways, the choice is yours!

How to Switch to Etisalat Service Using Any Nigeria SIM

Recently, in one of our earlier posts on this blog, we discussed number portability thus, when and how it was going to commence in Nigeria. Now, starting with etisalat, we will be discussing how you can port to any of the Nigeria GSM service provider from your original provider.

In case you don't yet know, number portability makes it possible for you to switch from one network to another whilest still keeping your original mobile number i.e your friends would still be able to call and reach through your original phone number though, you have switched to another network.
Port to Etisalat Nigeria
If you are currently on Airtel, Glo or MTN network, you can easily port to Etisalat without changing your Airtel, Glo or MTN phone numbers.

If you wish to port to etisalat, walk in to the nearest Etisalat Experience Centre or MPOS with a valid means of identification, photocopy of the ID and the mobile number you wish it be ported to Etisalat.

Right at the Experience centre, The Etisalat representative in attendance will inform you to initiate the porting process by texting “PORT” to 3232 after which the personal info needed for the porting process will be collected from you.

Following a successful porting process, a new Etisalat SIM will be issued to you. Within a maximum period of 48 hours, your Old SIM would be deactivated and stop working and afterward, your SIM services would be moved to Etisalat and then you can begin enjoying Etisalat services on your new SIM having no need for a change of your mobile number.

Points to Note

«» Once the porting process completes, for the next 90 days, you will not be able to port to another network service provider either to your previous provider or to another.
«» You will lose all the contacts, SMS and MMS stored in the OLD SIM card. Any unused airtime and bonuses on the OLD SIM would also be forfeited.
«» MNP is available to both “Post-Paid” and “Pre-Paid” (Pay As You Go) customers of all the service providers in Nigeria.
«» Please note that if your line has been barred or no longer active under your original service provider, number porting would not be possible for such lines.

How to Correct the "Disconnect" Error On Nokia Phones During Installation

Sometimes, while trying to install certain application on your Nokia phone, it says disconnected, especially, if it is a .JAD file you are trying to install on the phone. A fan of Aryk Enterprise had such issue while trying to install 2go app on his phone and within this article we share how we solved the problem.

Settings

What is .jad App?

A .jad (file format) simply means java application descriptor. This file format usually requires an active internet connection during installation otherwise; the installation could not be completed.

Identifying the Issue

Commonly, you may notice two signs when your phone developed this kind of problem which prevents it from installing certain applications like 2go and other mobile phone application that are packaged in .jad file format.

1- First, using the native web browser of the phone, the phone begins to fail opening certain pages.

2- Secondly, if you download any .jad application, the phone writes "Disconnected" during the installation of the application and therefore, the installation could not be completed.

Solving the Problem

Solving this kind of problem with the phone only requires some modifications in the settings of the phone and to correct this error; just go to:

Control Panels <<>> Settings <<>> App Manager

And from here, modify the following settings:

Software Installation = All
Online Cert. Check = On
Default Web Address= fill in the address of the website you wish to download from e.g 2go.im
(Please note that only one (1) web address is accepted at a time)

Then, save the settings by simply navigating back to the homescreen.
Now, you can begin downloading and installing any .jad or java application on your phone.

If you have any questions to ask or comments to make, please use the comment box below. If you encounter similar problem with your phone, you can also ask for assistance.
