First off, what do these terms: Breaking, Debranding, Upgrade And Down-grade means?

Breaking:

To put simply, breaking means getting your Android device permanently stocked at start-up. This usually happens when debranding your Android device and sometimes;during up-grade and Down-grade processes.

Debranding:

This means replacing the customized ROMs of a particular device made for certain service provider with the original ROM made by the phone manufactural.

As in the case of HTC Desire/Tmobile G2.
HTC made customized ROM of HTC Desire for Tmobile. And this is the reason why the HTC Desire Z is porpularly known as the Tmobile G2.

However, if you wish, you can replace the original ROM made by HTC with the customized ROM of the Tmobile G2 -that's called DEBRANDING!

Down-grading or Up-Grading:

This is just an implication of a simple english grammer.
To upgrade your Android phone is to install a newer version of the previous OS installed on the phone so that the phone may support more applications better and feature more utilities.

However, if your phone seems to be unsupportive of the new development, you may down-grade it.

Safely Debrand, Upgrade or Downgrade your HTC Desire/Tmobile G2

Although, it is possible to upgrade or downgrade your HTC Desire/Tmobile G2 via the SD Memory (External Memory Space) mounted on the device, it is neither a safe nor a better practice to upgrade, downgrade or debrand your Tmobile G2

In order to debrand your Tmobile G2, you need the following materials:

1- A Laptop/Desktop PC
2- A compatible USB cord/cable for your device; Tmobile G2
3- HTC Sync manager or HTC Suit installed on your PC, Laptop/Desktop
4- And lastly, your desired HTC Desire .EXE setup file to be ready on your PC.

NOTE:

Some PC may require java SDK installed before you could perform this operation successfully.

Debranding or Upgrading your Tmobile G2 -Step By Step Guide

The step by step guide below gives you a detailed info on how to debrand your Tmobile G2.

1- while the phone is on, go to Menu <<>> Settings <<>> Applications <<>> Development and from here. set USB Debug to ON.

2- Switch off the phone by pressing and holding the POWER button.

3- Switch on the phone into HBoot Options by pressing and holding both the Power and Volume Down buttons together.

4- Once the phone is turned on, scroll to the Fast Boot option and select.

5- On the page that displays next, scroll down to the Reboot Bootloader option and select it

5- Now, attach the compaible USB cord/cable for your phone to the PC; Laptop/Desktop USB port, then, connect the other end to your phone.
6-
Now, if you have a copy of the HTC Desire ROM'S .EXE Setup file on your system, navigate to the folder in which you have it saved and double-click on it. In about a minute or two, the RUU, ROM Update program would be lunched.

7- Now, just follow the instructions as may be displayed by the RUU program untill the update is successfully completed.

NOTE:

- Please, be informed that your phone's battery must be at least, 30% charged before you begin the debranding or upgrade process.

- Unlike the SD Card or any other update options for Android devices, this process is completely reversible.

Besides switching your phone, I think it is a good practise to do backups of your phone as frequent as possible because, who knows? The cause for it may occur when it's no longer possible.

Unlike the contacts that is being backed-up automatically in Android OS Devices, your SMS (Text

Messages) are not being backed-up and for this reason, I am sharing with you a simple utility application useful for this purpose.

SMS Backup And Restore is the application. With SMS Backup And Restore, you can easily backup and restore the text messages on your Android OS devices. The backups could be done either on your SD Card (External Memory) mounted on your device or, on the built-in memory.

How to Backup Your SMS (Text Messages) Using SMS Backup And Restore

1- First, you need to download and install the SMS Backup And Restore application from the GooglePlay Store here.

2- Once downloaded, locate the application from the folder it is installed then, lunch it by clicking on its icon.

3- On the page that displays next, click on the "Backup" option. A pop up page appears asking you where you would like to save the backup.

Usually, a folder named "SMSBackupRestore" is created by default on the SD Card (External Memory Space) mounted on your phone. If you continue, the backup is done on your memory card which is the recommended folder.
In few minutes later, the backup is completed and restore your desired backup anytime and on any device for as long as you have the same SD Card on it.

NOTE:

On any device you wish to do the restore in later time, you must have the SMS Backup And Restore APP installed on it.

How to Back Up your Android Phone's Contact

Just in case you need to move your contacts from one Android phone to another, you might find this page useful when circumstances as such occur.

Although, Google backs up your contacts by default into a secured server once you have enabled back-ground data and added an email (Gmail) address to your Android phone during set up, you might still find this method useful and even faster compared to the time it takes to sync your contacts between the devices when using the Android built-in contacts backup.

2- Press the "Menu Button" and select the "Import/Export" option. A dialogue box should pop out asking you to choose where to import from or export to.

3- Select the "Export to SD Card" option. Here, another dialogue box should pop out asking you to choose the account from which you wish to export. Select the desired account you wish to backup and proceed.
Almost immediately, the backup process begins and completes in at most, 5 minutes depending on the number of contacts you have and the speed of your device.

NOTE

1- Please note that the backup is made on the SD Card (External Media Storage Space) mounted on your device.

2- You can import the backed-up contacts from the SD Card onto any Android device following the steps given above. Just mount the Media Storage card on the device to which you wish to import and select the appropriate options as given above.

4- Wait few minutes for the application to display the list of all the applications installed on your device, then, select the applications you wish to back up by checking or marking the squar box before each application on the list or by selecting the "Check All" box on the top left-hand corner.

5- Lastly, select the "Backup" button on the top right-hand corner.
Almost immidiately, the backup process begins and completes in at most, five minutes depending the number of applications installed on your device and the speed of the device.

NOTE

1- Please note that the backup is done by default on your media card (External Memory Space) therefore, you need to have a working media card with enough memory space mounted on your device before the backup begins.

2- To locate the backed-up .apk files, if your device has an in-built file manager, go to the file manager and browse to locate the "app_backup" folder on your device.
